How does a stock split work?
Your shares are multiplied by the ratio and the price is divided by it. A 3-for-1 split turns 100 shares at $150 into 300 shares at $50, leaving the value unchanged.
Does a split change what my holding is worth?
No, a split rearranges the same value into more or fewer shares. Reverse splits use a ratio below one, giving fewer shares at a higher price.
